-Urges Nigerian Military To Apply Caution
Following the civil unrest and the alleged gruesome killing of innocent citizens in Orlu local government area of Imo State, National President of Igbo Peace Ambassadors (I.P.A), Engr. Uju Okoro has called on aggrieved families to remain calm.
Engr Okoro also advised personnel of the Nigerian Military to apply caution in handling issues affecting unarmed civilians, saying that the organization was working assiduously with Traditional Rulers and community leaders in the affected areas to bring lasting peace.
Okoro, who contested the seat of President General of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide in the just concluded election, further maintained that he had informed his National Security Director to find out the root cause of the crisis, noting that IPA was making frantic efforts to open discussions with relevant stakeholders with a view to dialoguing with all concerned parties.
He further described as barbaric the wicked onslaught unleashed on innocent people in Orlu area of the state after unknown hoodlums were reportedly clashed, appealing to people residents in the affected areas to observe the curfew declared by the Governor.
“It is barbaric, wicked and unwholesome that some armed men were going around killing and maiming innocent people for no just cause. The issue of revenge should cease, hence the need to sensitize our military personnel to see unarmed citizens as friends rather than animals meant to be slaughtered. IPA is working very seriously with relevant stakeholders to address the matter in order to bring anyone found culpable to book.” He submitted.
While calling on the Army Chief in the state to allow their personnel undergo sensitization process on the need to see Nigerian citizens as friends, rather than enemies already condemned for death after a slight provocation.
The National President therefore advised the youths to shun any act capable of brewing crisis in the society, assuring of the readiness of IPA to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
