Contrary to allegations of anti-party by members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Mbaitoli/Ikeduru federal constituency during the February 25th Presidential and National Assembly elections, two political gladiators and leaders of the party in the state, Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha and Senator Samuel Anyanwu are said to have agreed to work together to ensure the victory of PDP in the re-run election.
It can be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the Mbaitoli/Ikeduru federal constituency election inconclusive after canceling results in some polling booths over electoral manipulations.
A leader of PDP in the federal constituency, Chief Umezurike Alexander disclosed to this newspaper that the candidate of the party, Dr Osmond Imo Ukanacho was cruising to victory in Ikeduru LGA and some major polling units in Mbaitoli LGA before the election was suddenly halted.
Similarly, an Aide to Hon Ihedioha revealed on condition of anonymity that his boss met with the National Secretary of PDP, Senator Anyanwu during the weekend in Abuja and resolved to eschew their differences with a view to delivering all the party candidates whose elections were declared inconclusive.
He maintained that Ihedioha had directed his supporters in the federal constituency to join hands with others to ensure the victory of Dr Ukanacho, adding that his emergence would bring unity and peace amongst party leaders in Owerri zone.
Continuing, Ihedioha was said to have warned all PDP members to desist from anti-party in the forthcoming re-run election, pointing out that the emergence of Dr Ukanacho remains the only opportunity left to reconcile aggrieved members.
